Materials engineering isn’t something that we hear about that often, I mean you may have heard of structural engineering and electrical engineering, but what is materials engineering? In this week’s episode I chat to Anna Ploszajski, who is an award winning engineer and science communicator, and she explains in detail what materials engineering is, why it’s important and how we can make materials move!
Anna explains how materials engineers study the activity of atoms inside materials, and how this influences a material’s properties. This knowledge can then be used to design new materials, or to make cool new things out of materials. Currently Anna is working on 4D printing! What is that I hear you say!? Yes, you may have heard of 3D printing but Anna explains an extra dimension which enables fabrics to move! Watch the video to find out more!
